Headaches

imageHave you ever had a headache? Most of us have. Over fifteen percent of Americans report having frequent headaches or migraines. There are different types of headaches that are caused by an array of reasons. Headaches are not always caused by disease, as some can be due to lack of proper hydration, an allergy, misalignment, stress or tension.

One of the most common causes of headaches in adults are those related to neck pain. This type of headache is often called, “a stress headache or tension headache,” caused by a decrease in normal movement of the spinal bones at the base of the head and the top of the neck. This leads to neck stiffness, tightness, or pain that often causes a headache to develop in the back of the head. The muscles at the base of the skull tighten, causing nerve irritation that causes the headache to occur. This type of headache may stay in the back of the head, or it may spread around the head towards the eyes making your head feel like it is in a vice grip. It may be on one side of the head or both and can last from several minutes to hours or even days. Sometimes any head movement will cause the headache to get worse. This type of headache can be so intense that people often mistake them for migraines because light sensitivity may also occur. The doctors at Denton Chiropractic Center have had much success in not only decreasing headaches, but often ridding the person of the headaches so they may enjoy life!

Chiropractic care can help. Chiropractic adjustments restore normal spinal bone positioning and movement. When the spine is in normal alignment, it not only functions normally, but so do the muscles that attach to it. Normal spinal alignment allows the nerves to talk to the body in a normal way that allows the body to be at ease and function better. Issues like neck pain and headaches then begin to improve and resolve.
